The Akuapim South Municipal Assembly participated in the nationwide two-day clean-up exercise held from 10th to 11th July 2026 across the municipality to promote environmental sanitation and healthy living.
The exercise brought together key stakeholders, including the Municipal Coordinating Director, Heads of Departments, staff of the Assembly, personnel from the security services, the National Ambulance Service, students, and community members.
During the first phase of the exercise, participants weeded roadsides, cleared overgrown vegetation, and collected litter along the stretch from the Ayi Mensah Toll Booth to the Aburi Y Junction, leaving the area visibly cleaner and more hygienic.
The second phase covered the route from the Aburi township through the mountainous curve to Nkumkrom. Participants continued with roadside weeding, desilting choked gutters, collecting refuse, and undertaking other sanitation activities, resulting in a cleaner and more pleasant environment.
Addressing participants during the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Osae Offei, commended all stakeholders for their dedication and active participation. He encouraged them to maintain the momentum and continue supporting sanitation initiatives within the municipality.
Hon. Osae Offei urged residents to adopt responsible environmental practices by refraining from indiscriminate littering, emphasizing that human activities largely contribute to environmental degradation.
He further noted that although many communities within the municipality are less susceptible to flooding because of the area's mountainous terrain, poor waste disposal and unsanitary practices can still contribute to the country's flooding challenges.
The two-day clean-up exercise was successfully executed, leaving Aburi and its surrounding communities cleaner, healthier, and more conducive for residents and visitors alike.
